Similarities between Marxism and Christianity

Some people would claim that Marxism is not a religion, and that it is an opposite of Christianity, with some naive arguments: just because Marx claims that "religion is the opium of the people" and the Soviet Union fighted against religious beliefs and practices, and their opposite metaphysical views: that Marxism is atheistic and materialistic while Christianity focuses on God and the supernatural.
However I consider this judgement as an essentialist error: judging whether two things are "essentially the same" or "essentially different" based on the comparison of what they claim to be their essence, their metaphysics.
Instead, a more genuine comparison, in my opinion, should be based on comparing a large list of different aspects, and see how much differs and how much is similar in practice.
Differences are much more obvious than similarities, they don't need to be explained; similarities are more or less well-known and even sometimes obvious to quite a number of people; however, as there are still now many people who did not notice (for example, people of the former Soviet world who identify Marxism with Atheism and thus want now to put forward religion as the only alternative to the horrors of Communism).

Thus, here I'll only present a non-exhaustive list of similarities.

This page gives this short but fine comparison:
"There are few if any differences, beyond the obvious.

Both claim to be working for the betterment of the common man. Both have books they claim are from a higher authority, both claim said books are infallible.

Both worship a demagogue. Both are determined to rule the world. Both ignore reality. Both claim that they're persecuted.

And the list goes on..."

Now here is a list of some similarities I will suggest:
Christianity
Marxism
Acts 4:32 - 5:11: "All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. ...And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.
Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.
Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? (...)” When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened.(...)
About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?”  “Yes,” she said, “that is the price.”  Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”At that moment she fell down at his feet and died.

Homosexuality In Classical Antiquity : In 342 (Codex Theodosianus, 9, 7, 3,) the first law was enacted in Milan regarding passive homosexuals. Harsher penalties were introduced by Theodosius I in a law addressed to the prefect of Rome in 390, with execution by burning (...). This law was inserted in the Theodosian Code of 438 (9, 7, 6), but substantially modified and with a wider scope. The new compilation condemned to burning all passive homosexuals without distinction. With the Emperor Justinian the legislation was broadened; every kind of homosexuality was repeatedly condemned with the death penalty".
From Wikipedia: "Justinian's law code then served as the basis for most European countries' laws against homosexuals for the next 1400 years. Homosexual behavior, called sodomy, was considered a capital crime, and thousands of homosexual men were executed across Europe during waves of persecution in these centuries."
From Wikipedia:
"Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels both to some level expressed homophobia in their public and private writings "
"In the 1930s under Joseph Stalin, homosexuality and abortion were recriminalised in the nation. Article 121 explicitly criminalised male same-sex intercourse and with five years of hard prison labor as a penalty(...) Homosexuals were sometimes denied membership or expelled from communist parties across the globe during the 20th Century, as most communist parties followed the social precedents set by the USSR. Today, however, nearly all communist parties accept homosexuals and support the LGBT rights movement.
Homosexuality was decriminalized in China in 1997 and was removed as a mental illness in 2002"
God not tolerating any heresy nor anybody committing any "adultery in his heart" (Matthew 5:28) nor committing any other horrible crime (such as, for example, the crime to consider "entering a religious community of a stricter observance" against His will, according to Faustina 18, and many more examples of similar crimes are mentioned in the rest of her diary, such as (71) the crime of offering someone flowers because of a "subtle attachment" for this person) - any unrepentful sinner will go to hell
The KGB checking that nobody keeps any property private nor has any thoughts or words against communism - anyone breaking those rules will go to gulag
Theodosius I started large-scale religious persecution aimed at eradication of all non-christian religions and destruction of all temples. This is a Christian innovation (except it was inspired by Judaism, of course). Indeed, before that, the Roman empire only made limited persecutions of the Christians, with no purpose to exterminate them;these were justified by the threat posed by Christianity to the Roman society, fear that turned out to be fully justified. (Thus the apologetic writings on "martyrs", as if Christians were specially targetted, is exaggerated: as if even being "persecuted" ever was an evidence of mental sanity or of divine infallibility ; but even if it was, it would rather plead for the Pagagn religions and antic Roman culture instead; anyway for the defense of freedoms and civilization, I do think that in retrospective the extermination of the minority of Christians would have been fully justified for the sake of the larger culture and civilization of that time; or better, just expel them to visit the Holy Land to check if their Jesus could really have been there).
He ended the Olympic Games, and destroyed much of the rich cultural heritage from Antiquity.
He was finally declared Saint by the Church.
Religions were oppressed and arts were severly regulated in the Soviet world.
The Church dumped the economic and intellectual development of Europe, thus leading to the fall of the Western Roman Empire and the millenium-long poverty of the Middle Ages, in the following ways:
- The destruction of the culture of Antiquity
- The ban on "usury", leading to a collapse of the financial system, that productive investment depended on
- Monopolizing knowledge by its control on the educational system, so that nobody can be educated without being Christian and wasting a lot of time with theology.
- The negative eugenic effect of sending the intellectual and spiritual elite to monastery, and putting a taboo on love that has the effect of reserving it to unethical, shameless people
False economic doctrines prevailed, economic liberties and finance were banned, so that the economic development stalled, until a final collapse of the whole system
In Cambodia, The Khmer Rouge exterminated the intellectual elite.
The Catholic Church tightly controlled information, banned by its Index and sometimes condemn to death for heresy, the non-Christian philosophers and scientists.
Since the final Great Schism between Catholics and Orthodox in 1054 when the Pope excommunicated the Patriarch, the Catholic Church maintained the Western Europe, through its control and censorship of information, in ignorance and disdain towards the higher economic and cultural prosperity of the Eastern Roman Empire where the allowance of financial transactions (no ban on usury) and the freedom of expression in non-theological issues allowed for remains of antic intellectual heritage of Antiquity to keep thriving and developing (with its wealth that also had other causes) until the fall of Constantinople in 1453 by Muslim conquerors. While this fall caused Eastern intellectuals to take refuge in Western Europe and contribute to start Renaissance there, usual Western history textbooks still now remain largely unthankful to the now dead Eastern Roman empire for this gift.
Information was tightly controlled, dissidents were arrested and the higher degrees of freedom and prosperity enjoyed in the Western "capitalist" world were denied for decades in communist countries.
It is wise to be stupid ("humble", "poor in spirit") and do nothing better than others, only wasteful things (being poor and give the little useless things that are all what one has for living); Being efficient and claiming to know things better than others is pride, sin and leads to hell. There is nothing to understand about life, as it would be so horribly unfair to consider any idea that something may be worth understanding that not all people can understand. The only thing that matters is to believe God's word without question. Which God had the goodness to design as stupid in order to give every stupid person the chance to follow it. Then ifever intelligent ones don't accept it, it will be their fault: it's up to them to become stupid for God's love, so that they have no excuse to refuse.
It is democratic, good and brotherly to be a stupid worker that proved unable to do any work worth a decent salary, and to propagate stupid demagogic propaganda supporting to put the stupidity of the large masses to power. It is criminal to belong to any leading elite in a position to work more productively and manage production or anything better than others. There is nothing to understand about economics, but that any inequality of wealth is injust and should be abolished.
Being or trying to be rich leads to hell
Being rich or trying to be rich is criminal and deserves to be sent to gulag
All humans are equally able to partially understand essential truths, and equally unable to fully do it. Those who claim they "can't" find faith, are just pretending. Those who claim to understand something beyond the thoughts of theologians and to refute them, are also just pretending. Any so-called "truth" outside the Bible is made up belief with no value and an act of rebellion of man against God. It cannot genuinely exist because human reason has limits and cannot find God, and these limits are uniform between all humans. Therefore, the fact theologians could not understand anything beyond the strict acceptance of Christian theology, proves this is not possible.
All humans are equal in nature and intelligence. Any appearence of a difference between social classes and jobs qualifications, is a mere social construction where the dominating class gave itself the priviledge of a better education, or just a pretention and an usurpation by possessing wealth and power positions.
Most Christian apologists reject logical positivism. And so many claims of Christianity are actually unfalsifiable, such as divine promises, God "answering" prayers by yes or no, accusations that deconverts "never were true Christians", and even, the belief in the existence of a proper Christian rational defense which is made unfalsifiable by every Christian blindly dismissing any skeptic arguments by refusing to hear them and requesting the skeptics to go talk instead to someone else, pastor, preacher or famous apologist, supposed expert having all the arguments, but who are actually professionally dumb people...
As explained by Popper, Marxism fails to be a scientific theory because it is not falsifiable.

And of course, each one of these excuses the evils it created by saying they are perfect ideals, problems are the fault of people who did not apply them correctly. Oh yeah, they would be perfect ideologies if they did not have any members.
